Join our Conquering Waves Dragon Boat Team
Conquering Waves Dragon Boat Team provides an opportunity for individuals living with a mental illness to participate on a community-based dragon boat team with their peers, friends, family and/or supporters of mental health promotion!
This year, the team practice sections will take place every Saturday from 1:20pm – 3:00pm starting March 18, 2023 and continue until the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival on June 24-25, 2023. Practice Location: Creekside Community Center, 1 Athletes Way, Vancouver.

The Thrive program is seen as a stepping stone for individuals living with a mental health condition offering one-to-one coaching and group programs that focus on health, recreation, skill development, personal development, and successful community attachment (employment, volunteering, social engagements).
About Conquering Waves
For over 12 years, the Conquering Waves Dragon Boat Team has been challenging the stigma of mental illness by bringing together individuals living with mental illness, their friends, families, and/or supporters of Mental Health Promotion to train weekly for 14 weeks and compete in the annual Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival held each summer!This year, the team practice sections will take place every Saturday from 1:20pm – 3:00pm starting March 18, 2023 and continue until the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival on June 24-25, 2023. About The Festival
The Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival is North America’s biggest, best, and most competitive racing festival and Vancouver’s #1 community event. Join our Conquering Waves Dragon Boat team if you are:
- Person aged 17+ with lived experience of mental illness or substance use, family member or worker in mental health field. Participants must currently live or work in Vancouver or Richmond city.
- A supportive team player who wants to have fun, meet new friends, and connect with the community in a meaningful way. The team will meet and train weekly for 14 weeks and compete in the annual Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival in June.
- A punctual and attentive team player! Our training section takes place every Saturday starting March 18, 2023. Participants are expected to check in with Thrive Facilitator and coach Patrick at 1:20pm for attendance at every Saturday training session.
