About Conquering Waves
For over 18 years, the Conquering Waves Dragon Boat Team has been challenging the stigma of mental challenges by bringing together individuals living with mental challenges, their friends, families, and/or supporters of Mental Health Promotion to train weekly for 15 weeks and compete in the annual Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival held each summer!
This year, the team practice sections will take place every Saturday from 1:00 pm -3:30 pm starting March 15th , 2025 and continue until the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival on June 21st- June 22nd, 2025. Practice Location: Creekside Community Centre, 1 Athletes Way, Vancouver.
Please submit your application prior to the team Orientation on March 14th, 2025. A Thrive representative will get in touch with you shortly after reviewing your submitted information!

About The Festival
The annual Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival is North America’s biggest, best, and most competitive racing festival and Vancouver’s #1 community event. Organized by Dragon Boat BC in June, the festival offers three days of free entertainment, children’s activities, art and cultural installations, interactive performances, shopping, and dragon boat racing of the highest caliber, make this the best way to kick off your summer!Visit Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival
Join the Conquering Waves Dragon Boat Team - How to Apply:
If you're 17 or older and have lived experience with mental health challenges or substance use, are a family member, or work in the mental health field, you can sign up for the Conquering Waves Dragon Boat Team. Please note that you must live or work within the Vancouver Coastal Health service area Which is Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, and West Vancouver.As part of the team, you'll train weekly for 15 weeks, build connections, and compete in the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival in June.
We’re looking for supportive, punctual team players who are eager to have fun, make new friends, and engage with the community. Attendance check-ins with the Thrive Facilitator are required at every Saturday training session.
Important: Complete Your Forms. Please ensure to submit both forms before orientation on Friday, March 14th.
