Open Door Group Recertified as Living Wage Employer in BC
Open Door Group is proud to announce that we have once again been certified as a Living Wage Employer in British Columbia. This certification underscores our commitment to ensuring sustainable, fair, and equitable compensation for all our employees.
Living Wage for Families BC collaborates with communities across the province to determine their local living wage. This figure represents the hourly amount that two working parents with two young children must earn to cover basic expenses such as rent, childcare, food, and transportation, factoring in government taxes, credits, deductions, and subsidies (please note that it does not include debt repayment or savings for future plans).
In a province as diverse as British Columbia, the cost of living varies from one community to another. Factors such as housing costs, childcare expenses, and access to goods and services contribute to these differences. Regardless of location, families should have the means to afford a decent standard of living.
The Living Wage calculation, conducted in partnership with CCPA-BC, is an essential tool for identifying policy advocacy that can address poverty at the community level. The living wage for Metro Vancouver where Open Door Group operates, for instance, stands at $25.68 per hour.
