ABOUT OPEN DOOR GROUP
Open Door Group is a non-profit organization and registered charity that operates on the fundamental belief that all individuals have the ability to succeed. We provide opportunities for achievement through employment programs and health and wellness activities in BC's Lower Mainland and Interior. We serve a variety individuals including those who are seeking employment and persons living with a disability or facing multiple barriers such as social, economic, or health challenges.
Established in 1976, the organization started out as a small group of dedicated volunteers providing woodworking and sewing classes to people with disabilities in Vancouver. Over the past three decades, Open Door Group has grown to serve over 4,700 British Columbians per year. Initially offering life and job skills programs only to persons with disabilities, Open Door Group's mandate has evolved to include providing services and opportunities that support inclusion of ALL individuals.
To achieve our mission, Open Door Group promotes and advocates for inclusive communities. This includes connecting with clients, families, the business community, other service providers, and all levels of government. We believe in the power of strong, collaborative partnerships within the communities we serve. In addition to our regular programs, some of our collaborative initiatives include: the BC Employer Diversity Forum, a progressive network of businesses that promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace, the BC Workplace Diversity and Inclusion Awards, the annual Open Door Group International Disability Film Festival, along with several other local and regional initiatives that support inclusive communities.
Open Door Group programs are funded by the BC Ministry of Social Development, Interior Health Authority and Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. Our full legal name is "Open Door Social Services Society".
